András

Master of Marketing - Franchising, Retail & Service Chains

Promotion 2017-2018

My education at IGR-IAE Rennes gave me a well-rounded knowledge about franchise and other chains and different marketing practices (…). It is also important to note that the realistic case studies taught me to think critically and approach problems in a practical, creative way.

What was your background before coming to study at IGR-IAE Rennes ?

Prior to studying at IGR-IAE Rennes, I was already an international student doing a 3.5 years professional bachelor program in Denmark (International Business Academy, Kolding). I met my girlfriend there who is from Rennes and after our bachelor studies, we moved to France together.

What was your motivation for this study project in France ?

I had decided earlier to go for an international master’s degree to expand my knowledge and to be more specialized in a certain field within marketing. As I was in Rennes already, my objective was to find a meaningful and practical master program in the region and luckily, I stumbled upon IGR-IAE Rennes and I immediately took interest in the franchising sector and in business networks.

What would you advise to a Hungarian student who has the same project as you?

To any Hungarian who wishes to carry out a marketing master’s abroad, I would advise to go for it. They just have to make sure that what they want to study has a future and can be useful wherever they intend to live. Furthermore, they need to be aware of different cultures and have a basic knowledge of the local language to “survive” in their everyday life.

What is your worst surprise/memory of your arrival in France/Rennes/IGR?

I don’t have any bad memories about Rennes or IGR-IAE Rennes, as I truly enjoyed my stay and education there; the most pleasant surprise was when I realized that Rennes is such a lovely town and full of international students.

What are the highlights of the FRSC program?

The highlights of the Franchising program are the practical approach of teaching, the lecturers with professional and/or international background, the French language course, and special events such as the Franchise Expo or company visits. All this for an affordable price which is a very important factor.

What do you miss most after the end of your studies at IGR?

What I miss the most from my studies at IGR-IAE Rennes is the teamwork with my classmates, combining our strengths for different projects and working on interesting case studies.

How has your education at IGR helped you in your career?

My education at IGR-IAE Rennes gave me a well-rounded knowledge about franchise and other chains and different marketing practices that I can use even if my career is not franchise-related so far. It is also important to note that the realistic case studies taught me to think critically and approach problems in a practical, creative way.

How was your career path after you left IGR?

My end of studies internship was in E-marketing for the online fashion retailer Spartoo in Grenoble as they were looking for a Hungarian speaker to develop their Hungarian website and work with the local affiliate partners.
After this, my girlfriend and I moved to the UK, not too far from London to try our luck. Due to my previous experience, I stayed on a more digital oriented career path; for 1,5 years I have been a Social Media and Marketing Executive at an independent recruitment agency. I’m mainly responsible for the social media campaigns and the creation of various digital contents which I quite enjoy. However, in the near future, we are planning to move back to Bretagne, and I would intend to make more use of my master’s degree by having a more franchising_related job.
